Surround Speakers

Surround speakers serve a different function from the front speakers. They wrap you in a sonic environment and gets you .

They are placed in the rear or the side of the room usually above the listening position.

Dipolar speakers emit sound both from the front and the back of the speaker. They have 2 sets of speaker one in front and another in the rear whereas front speakers have only 1 set of driver.

The sound is projected towards the front and the rear of the room and creates a null for the listener so he hears no direct sound. Instead sound is reflected back from the front and the rear walls giving a feeling of immersion and sonic ambience.

Bipolar speakers emit sound in the same polarity. That means when the woofer in the front driver moves outwards, the woofer in the rear driver likewise moves outwards too. In a dipolar speakers, the woofer in the front driver moves outwards while the woofer in the rear driver moves inwards.

Dipolar speakers are better because it creates a larger null.
