Ever wonder how it works? Here's a simple explanation. When current is applied to the cell containing xenon and neon gas atoms, they become charged and release ultraviolet photons. This ultraviolet photons react with the phosphurs to give off visible light photons. Each pixel contains three subpixels, a blue subpixel , a green subpixel and a red subpixel . Together they form one pixel. The three subpixels combine together to give the variety in colours. Each cell consists of a subpixel either the green subpixel , the blue and the red subpixel which all contains phosphurs. An electrode is placed within the cell and xenon and neon gas atoms fill the cell. When an voltage is applied to two transparent electrodes on the glass, the gas atoms becomes unstable and erratic breaking up into ions and electrons and colliding into one another and releasing photons energy. This photo energy causes the phosphurs to emit either red , green or blue light. Many colours are possible through varying the number of the voltage pulses.
